One of the scientific proven theories of aging is the neuron-endocrine theory which states that
the aging process is a result in decline hormone production.  DHEA  is  one of  the most  important
anti-aging dietary supplement.

DHEA - Dehydroepiandrosterone:  is a natural hormone made in the human body produced by  the
adrenal glands.  DHEA circulates in the bloodstream as DHEA sulfate and is converted as needed

Dhea levels peak in early adulthood and then start a lifelong descent.  The body's natural
production of DHEA begins to decrease after age 30.  The decline of DHEA hormone with age
parellels that of HGH Human Growth Hormone, so by age 65, our bodies make only 10% to 20%
of what they did at age 20.

Cholesterol is the starting material used to make al steroid hormones in the body.  In the adrenal
glands cholesterol is converted to pregnenolone and pregnenolone is converted into DHEA and a
number of sex hormones including the female hormones estrogen and progesterone and the male
hormone testosterone.

In the anti-aging role, DHEA protects against arteriosclerosis, improves cardiac function, and lower
blood pressure.  Research has shown a correlation between low DHEA levels and a declining
immune system.  DHEA dietary supplement is a potent immune system booster and is beneficial in
autoimmune disease.   Studies  has found that DHEA relieved symptoms  such as  skin  rashes,
joint pain, headaches and fatigue.   Many also reported  a  higher tolerance for  exercise and
better concentration.  

DHEA is being  used in the fight against HIV,  cancer and senile dementia.  DHEA dietary  
supplement helps reduce inflammatory processes in the brain, this finding implies that the

DHEA levels are reported to be low in some people with anorexia, end-stage kidney disease, type 2
diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes), adrenal insufficiency and in the critically ill.  DHEA levels
may also be depleted by a number of drugs, including insulin, corticosteroids, opiates and danazol.

DHEA nutritional supplements come from the starting source material for DHEA is a class of plant
hormones called sterols extracted from wild yams that are grown commercially.  The most common
plant sterol is diosgenin that has a molecular structure very similar to DHEA. Diosgenin is
converted to DHEA in the laboratory.  Products that claim wild yam to be "natural DHEA" are
inaccurate.

It is estimated that humans produce between 1 and 2 mg of DHEA and 10 to 15 mg of DHEAS
(the sulfate metabolite) per day.  Some researchers, however, have estimated higher levels.  
Some researches suggest DHEA daily intakes for women 5 - 15 mg and 10 - 30 mg for men. Other
experts suggest supplementation with as much as 50 mg per day in men or postmenopausal
women may be appropriate.  DHEA levels should be monitored before and during
supplementation.  DHEA is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
